St Mark's Road Baptist ChurchWho we are?

The Love Easton Urban Design Task Group is made up of residents living within Easton, Bristol. We believe that the area has a lot of potential but there is a lack of direction or vision for how it will develop.

Why do it?

  • The proximity of Easton to the City centre and the relative cheap land available has meant that developers have been buying up sites for projects. These projects have been occurring in an ad-hoc manner with no consideration for the amenities that will be needed to facilitate these new developments and the people that may migrate towards them.
  • The strategic document that we aim to create would foresee future needs and allocate sites for the development of such amenities.
  • Gives local residents more power at the planning stage – making a clear impact on the decision making process.
  • Through consultation and feedback - find a new vision for Easton and Lawrence Hill.

Collaboration

We will be working with the Masters students from Sheffield University Architecture Department as they have the technical expertise in the field of Urban Design, Regeneration, Master-Planning and Community Consultation. The students will be visiting Easton, Bristol over the month of October 2009. During this time an intensive consultation process will occur, allowing residents to share their stories and experiences on the area – helping to create a shared vision of the future of the ward.

The ‘hub’

‘hub’ - 5 Stapleton Rd (round the corner from the Trinity Centre) - Drop in throughout October and give us your thoughts. Join in on the consultation events. The ‘hub’ will develop into a participatory exhibition space, allowing local people to input into the consultation process and the development of the strategic document.

All the work produced at the ‘hub’ will then move to the Architecture Centre, Bristol, First Floor – November 3rd-22nd
